INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Measles is highly contagious serious disease caused by a virus.

Because of its menace so many authors and different writers discussed

and presented it in different ways.

Monica Byrene and F. I. Bennett (1973) defined measles as “any

infections febrile childhood disease caused by virus” millions of deaths

were recorded each year as a result of its attack.

So many great names and authorities in the field bent on serious

research to curtail this problem. Because it was known that people who

are immune disease are those who are protected against that disease by

means of antibodies circulation in the blood or present in the cells of

the tissue of their bodies. Thus the concept of immunization was

focused.

The task of immunizing people requires a lot of sacrifice ranging

from funds strategies for its implementation ability and courage of the

health workers educating the prone people and cooperation of the

parents.

Having said all these the national states and local governments

bent on serious effort to eradicate the disease. But yet the ugly disease

still means its lead in many parts of the state the study area inclusive.

The NPI WHO UNICEF and other agencies rallied round to ensure

complete extinction of measles. They provided the logistics money

materials and vaccines for the single reason that measles is KICKED out

of the world. Therefore this study will further unraveled reason or

reasons that still kept the implementation strategies very low.

Statement of the Problem

The background has shown that the implementation of measles

immunization is poor. Health workers and ill-awareness of members of

the society adequate funds and logistics had resulted in poor

implementation. Nevertheless information has not been elicited based

on empirical study to confirm that lack of cooperation and unawareness

were the dominant factors in determining the implementation. The

issue which arises for this study is asked “what are the strategies

employed to ensure proper implementation of measles immunization in

the local government area”?

Significance of the Study

If it is established that measles immunization is not fully

implemented a research work like this will draw the attention of the

health workers to improve and strengthen their areas of weakness and

strength.

As part of the strategies the local citizens especially the parent

need to have re-orientation through different media to have a change of

mind towards measles immunization of their children.

With this work student of health care delivery would be motivated

to expand their areas of study and research in realizing the objective of

having a measles-free community as stipulated by the World Health

Organisation.

Purpose of the Study

Purpose of this study is assessing the implementation of measles

immunization in Irepo local government (Kisi) Oyo state. Specifically the

purpose of this study is to:

1. Determine the availability of resources for the implementation of

measles immunization in Irepo local government area.

2. Determine the methods used for the implementation of measles

immunization in Irepo local government.

3. Determine the problems encountered by the health workers in the

implementation of measles immunization in Irepo local

government.

Research Questions

1. How available are the resources for the implementation of measles

immunization in Irepo local government?

2. What are the methods used in the implementation of measles

immunization in Irepo local government?

3. What are the problems encountered by the health workers in the

implementation of measles immunization programme in Irepo local

government.

Scope of the Study

The researcher restricted the study to five wards: Namely Agoro

Ward 1 Ajaguna Ward 2 Atipa Ward 3 Agede Ward 4 Olorunsogo

Ward 5 in measles programme is being investigated.
